Westchester Emergency Medical Services also known as Westchester EMS has been serving Westchester County, New York since July 31, 2000. Westchester EMS is the only hospital based not for profit ambulance agency in the Hudson Valley region.

Westchester EMS is a member of the Stellaris Health Network. The member hospitals are Lawrence Hospital Center, Northern Westchester Hospital, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center and White Plains Hospital. Our mission is to serve our member hospitals and patients with the highest quality pre-hospital care and patient transports.

Since September 2000, Westchester EMS has been providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedic intercept “fly-car” service to the Westchester County communities of Bedford, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge and Somers. In concert with local volunteer ambulance corps and fire departments, the paramedics respond to emergencies covering over 200 square miles. In 2011, WEMS became the first authorized paramedic agency to record and transmit 12 lead EKG heart monitoring to participating hospitals in the region. This technology allows real time consultation with emergency room physicians allowing for quicker and more appropriate care for heart attack victims.

Our coordinated response with local volunteers to the 2001 World Trade Center attacks reinforced our need to work closely with our volunteer partners. WEMS has coordinated and participated in various drills with other agencies and hospitals in our region. This effort continues today and 2012 will mark the first coordinated disaster drill with the four Stellaris Network hospitals and Westchester EMS.

Since June 2002, Westchester EMS has been providing emergency dispatching and communication services to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department. The Dispatch Center is located in Lincolndale and operates a secondary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the Westchester County 911 System. In 2010, Westchester EMS started EMT staffing for Somers Fire Department EMS.

WEMS utilizes state of the art dispatching technology complete with computer aided dispatching (CAD) and global positioning system (GPS) vehicle tracking technology.
